Scott Laskey, Founder and CEO

Scott Laskey founded Sandbar Solar & Electric in 2004 with a vision to deliver high-quality solar and electrical solutions. As Founder and CEO, Scott provides strategic oversight, guiding the company’s performance and ensuring it aligns with long-term goals. While he’s stepped back from day-to-day details, Scott maintains a big-picture perspective, focusing on growth and supporting Sandbar’s dedicated team.

Scott’s leadership was instrumental in one of the company’s proudest milestones—building their off-grid, solar-powered headquarters. This unique space not only supports the team but also reflects Sandbar’s commitment to sustainability and the Santa Cruz community.

Outside of work, Scott enjoys spending time with his family, sailing, playing soccer, surfing, and traveling. He looks forward to Sandbar’s continued growth, with the hope that the company provides a platform for team members to fulfill both professional and personal aspirations.

Cale Garamendi | Vice President of Project Development

Cale Garamendi has been a driving force in Sandbar Solar and Electric’s growth since 2018. As Vice President of Project Development, Cale is responsible for residential and commercial business development and early-stage project planning. His unique combination of analytical expertise, technical sales expertise, acumen, and hands-on construction experience as a licensed general contractor allows him to approach solar projects with a practical, results-oriented perspective.

  • Cale's passion for building lasting relationships within the local business community has helped him establish trust and drive success for Sandbar. One of his key achievements is his ongoing work with Ow Family Properties and Santa Cruz Skateboards, which has contributed to the development of Sandbar’s operations and maintenance department—an integral part of the company’s long-term success.

    Born on a cattle ranch in California and raised in rural mountain communities, Cale grew up with a deep connection to the outdoors and a love for hands-on work. Today, he brings that same dedication and resilience to his role at Sandbar, balancing leadership with his ability to connect with clients on a personal level.

    Outside of work, Cale enjoys surfing, fishing, golfing, and spending time with his family in Santa Cruz. Looking ahead, he’s excited about the rapid growth opportunities in the solar industry and the role Sandbar will play in shaping the future of renewable energy.

Alicia Moss | Director of Business Operations

Alicia Moss has been a key part of Sandbar Solar & Electric since 2014, serving as the Director of Business Operations. In her role, Alicia oversees a wide range of business functions, including office management, project administration, accounts receivables, contracts, insurance, IT, and HR. Her ability to keep the business running efficiently and smoothly allows the team to focus on delivering high-quality solar and electric projects.

  • Known for her organizational skills and attention to detail, Alicia is an essential part of the company’s operational backbone. She takes pride in the collaborative and hardworking team at Sandbar, and she finds fulfillment in being part of their collective success.

    Looking ahead, Alicia is especially excited about the continued growth of Sandbar and the technical and professional development within the team. She is inspired by the growth she continues to see as team members take on more responsibilities, new roles develop, and expanded training opportunities become available.

    Outside of work, Alicia is passionate about traveling and the outdoors. After a decade of playing roller derby, she recently retired from the sport and now enjoys long-distance bike rides throughout the U.S.. Whether hiking, camping, or participating in sports, Alicia loves spending time in the great outdoors.

Dave Brill, Vice President of Pre-Construction

David Brill has been with Sandbar Solar & Electric since 2007, playing a pivotal role in the company's growth from a small operation to a team of nearly 60 employees. As Vice President of Pre-Construction and a Project Manager, David bridges the gap between sales and construction, overseeing projects from the initial concept all the way to completion.

  • David’s expertise spans a wide range of responsibilities, including scoping, pricing, estimating, and managing the engineering and design phases. He is responsible for permitting, interconnection, and feasibility evaluations. As a Project Manager, he ensures that projects align with contracts while managing budgets, schedules, and financial oversight.

    A key highlight in David’s career is his work on the Canopy project at UCSC’s East Remote parking lot. The project involved complex challenges, such as managing the unique geological conditions, coordinating with the school’s schedule, integrating a large Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), and ensuring the PV/BESS systems worked seamlessly with the existing energy systems on campus. Despite the intricacies, David led his team to a successful and well-coordinated outcome.

    David’s approach to leadership is grounded in his ability to listen and guide others. He enjoys mentoring project managers and construction managers, helping them discover their own path to success. His broad knowledge of both construction and business operations makes him a valuable resource within the company.

    Outside of work, David loves spending time outdoors with his family. Whether it's early morning duck hunting with his son, exploring nature with his daughter, or relaxing in a hammock with his wife, David feels most at home in the great outdoors.

    Looking to the future, David is excited about Sandbar’s position in the growing electrification of infrastructure and daily life. He believes that diversifying the company’s capabilities—particularly in electric vehicles and energy storage—will be key to their continued success. David is eager to see how Sandbar will contribute to this evolving industry.

Bryan McFarland, VP of Construction Operations

As VP of Construction Operations, Bryan combines his background as an electrician with his operational expertise to oversee construction teams and ensure that projects are built to the highest standards. His real strength, however, lies in his ability to communicate and collaborate with every department—from design and project management to procurement and sales—keeping everyone aligned and working toward common goals.

  • Starting at Sandbar Solar & Electric in 2014, Bryan has played a critical role in ensuring the successful execution of solar projects from start to finish. As VP of Construction Operations, Bryan combines his background as an electrician with his operational expertise to oversee construction teams and ensure that projects are built to the highest standards. His real strength, however, lies in his ability to communicate and collaborate with every department—from design and project management to procurement and sales—keeping everyone aligned and working toward common goals.

    Bryan takes great pride in the relationships he has built within the company and the growth he has seen among his colleagues. Having hired and mentored many of Sandbar’s current leaders, he’s proud to see the elevation of talent across the business.

    A longtime Santa Cruz resident, Bryan is deeply invested in the local community, both through his work and his personal life. Outside of Sandbar, he enjoys coaching youth sports, including baseball and flag football, and spending time with his family.

    Looking to the future, he is excited about the continued growth of the company and the opportunity to remain a part of the Santa Cruz community as both a professional and a parent.

Stuart Davis, P.E., Electrical Engineering & Design

Joining Sandbar Solar & Electric in 2016, Stuart Davis manages and leads our engineering team. Known for his analytical approach to solving complex problems, Stuart takes a high-level view of each project to ensure it makes sense before diving into the technical details. One of his proudest professional achievements was earning his professional engineering license, a major milestone in his career.

  • Stuart’s sense of humor, combined with his deep expertise, makes him a valued contributor to the Sandbar team. Outside of work, he enjoys surfing, playing soccer, making music, and spending time with his 11-year-old son, often engaging in some serious Minecraft sessions.

    Looking ahead, Stuart is excited about the future of renewable energy, particularly in off-grid and energy storage projects, areas where he believes Sandbar is well-positioned for growth and innovation.

Liam Ryan | Director of Construction

As Director of Construction at Sandbar Solar & Electric, Liam Ryan is responsible for overseeing the construction process, ensuring projects are completed to code, and training the crews on safety and best practices. With a strong focus on detail and a conceptual understanding of large-scale projects, Liam ensures that each job runs smoothly from start to finish.

    Outside of work, Liam enjoys riding his motorcycle and spending time with his kids. Looking ahead, he’s excited about the continued growth of the renewable energy industry and the opportunity to contribute to a more sustainable future through his work at Sandbar.

Jeremy Pearl

Residential Sales Manager

  • Jeremy Pearl began working in the solar industry in 2006 and has been with Sandbar Solar & Electric since 2020 where he leads the development and management of the residential solar and battery business. As Residential Sales Manager, Jeremy not only manages the residential sales team but also works directly with homeowners to provide clean energy solutions that reduce reliance on traditional utilities. His role extends into marketing development, where his organizational skills and thoughtful leadership shine through.

    Jeremy finds great fulfillment in mentoring and developing salespeople, helping them grow so they can serve more customers effectively. He’s passionate about environmental sustainability and the impact that solar and battery solutions can have on homeowners, especially as it relates to energy independence and resilience during power outages.

    Outside of work, Jeremy’s creative side comes alive. He’s a music performer, photographer, and event planner, and he enjoys hiking, dancing, and attending music festivals. Jeremy’s family is also central to his life, and he loves spending time with his wife and kids. He was raised in Santa Cruz and graduated from UCSC in 1995 with a degree in Environmental Studies.

    Looking ahead, Jeremy is excited about Sandbar’s growth, particularly within the residential business. He looks forward to expanding the team and bringing solar and battery solutions to even more homeowners.

Gabrielle Reese

Commercial Project Manager

  • As a Project Manager at Sandbar Solar & Electric, Gabrielle oversees commercial solar and energy storage projects from contract to closeout. Joining Sandbar in 2021, Gabrielle brings a unique blend of technical expertise and interpersonal skills to her role, ensuring that projects run smoothly and stay on budget and schedule. Her strong ability to manage complex projects, along with her analytical and communication skills, makes her an integral part of the Sandbar team.

    Her background in project management allows her to balance the technical demands of solar and energy storage with the human side of the business, working closely with clients, vendors, and internal teams to move projects forward efficiently.

    Outside of work, she enjoys gardening, homesteading activities like canning and preserving, and spending time in nature. She’s also passionate about music and loves attending concerts and community events. Looking to the future, Gabrielle is excited about Sandbar’s growth and the expanding opportunities in renewable energy, particularly in solar and energy storage.

Robert Holt

Senior Project Manager

  • Robert Holt joined Sandbar Solar & Electric as a Senior Project Manager, bringing decades of experience in electrical project management. Specializing in commercial electrical work, Robert oversees projects from design to completion, focusing on power and lighting rather than solar. His expertise and dedication bring a sense of ownership to every project he manages, ensuring high-quality outcomes.

    Robert has worked on notable projects, including the mixed-use development at Natural Bridges Apartments, tenant improvements for ABC Supply Company, and multiple EV charging station installations for clients like Frito Lay and Avis. With a strong commitment to sustainable energy solutions, Robert takes pride in projects that make a positive impact.

    Outside of work, Robert enjoys traveling, especially to Europe, and spending time outdoors. A third-generation Santa Cruz local, he loves scuba and swimming in the ocean, motorcycling, and staying connected to his community. Looking forward, Robert is excited about the expanding EV charging market and Sandbar’s growing involvement in commercial electrical construction.

  • Will Crick has been with Sandbar Solar & Electric since 2017, managing residential solar & battery projects from start to finish. With over 14 years of experience in the solar industry, Will brings deep technical expertise to his role but has shifted his focus toward managing personnel and coordinating teams to ensure that every project is executed properly.

    A Santa Cruz native, Will returned to the area to raise his family after working in solar in the Bay Area. His connection to the local community is evident in the pride he takes in projects like the solar installations at local schools, which his own children attend. For Will, the relationships he’s built with his team are the most rewarding part of the job, and he thrives on being part of a collaborative and supportive workplace.

    Outside of work, Will enjoys spending time with his family, playing soccer, golfing, and enjoying the Santa Cruz lifestyle. He’s excited about the future of Sandbar as an employee-owned company and looks forward to the continued growth of residential energy storage and solar projects in the community he calls home.

Summer Kyle

Finance and Payroll Manager

  • With expertise in financial management, payroll, and human resources, Summer Kyle plays a crucial role in keeping Sandbar Solar & Electric running smoothly. In partnership with leadership, Summer manages the company’s financials and oversees payroll operations. Since joining the company, Summer has implemented several process improvements and successfully led the team through a complex payroll software transition, demonstrating strong project management skills.

    Summer brings advanced reporting, data analytics, and financial expertise to the role, which helps ensure that Sandbar operates efficiently and effectively. With a passion for community service, Summer is also active outside of work, founding a nonprofit and running a company that provides sober housing to the local community.

    Looking ahead, Summer is excited about Sandbar’s growth trajectory, particularly as the company takes on larger public projects. She is eager to contribute to the management of prevailing wage aspects for government-funded initiatives, helping Sandbar achieve continued success in the solar industry.

Warren Bruder

Construction Manager

  • Warren Bruder has been with Sandbar Solar & Electric since 2017, serving as a Construction Manager. In his role, Warren oversees three commercial crews, ensuring that jobs are prepped, managed, and completed smoothly. He takes pride in his ability to work independently, while also earning the trust and respect of his crew through years of hands-on experience in the field.

    One of Warren’s most memorable projects was the UCSC solar installation, where he enjoyed working with a strong team and taking in the beautiful views every morning. His leadership and field expertise make him a valuable part of the Sandbar team.

    Outside of work, Warren enjoys camping, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his dog. Looking ahead, he’s excited about Sandbar’s continued growth and is proud to be part of the company’s future success.
