What Customers Say About Us
The system Sandbar installed has been up and running for about 8 months. To say that I am pleased with the resulting power bill from our utility company would... read more be an understatement – from $600 to $50. The system is dramatically out performing my expectations. I checked the Solar Edge monitoring system frequently and get a sense of contentment each time.

Sandbar Solar installed panels for us 8 years ago and did such a good job that we hired them again this fall to double our panel number. They provided excellent... read more service and quality both times.

Sandbar recently installed PV panels and battery storage at our house in Santa Cruz and it was a great experience. Our second story roof is steep, so it wasn’t... read more a simple installation and the credible solar specialists seem to have all the work they can handle right now (so don’t expect to have much leverage in pricing and timing).
We got three quotes from local companies with great references, one of which was Sandbar. We worked primarily with Jarrett on the spec and the quote. In short, I’d have been happy to have any of three companies do the work, but I found that Jarrett and Sandbar had the best combination of price, scale and demonstrating they cared about our business.
The overall experience was great. Jarrett was responsive and “on it” as we figured out scheduling and finalized our spec and details. The crew who figured out the installation details, who did the actual installation and who got everything connected, up and running were all polite, professional and personable. The job site was kept impeccably clean and the crew all treated our house respectfully and were as unobtrusive as possible. Honestly, I have nothing but rave reviews to describe our experience with Sandbar. Bravo.
As for the system, it’s awesome to be, basically, grid neutral. It’s also nice to know that we can limp along with power indefinitely (as long as it’s sunny). And our October PG&E power cost (our first full month with the new system) was ($7.00). Yep, we banked seven bucks.

(This will be long, but should be worth the read)
I highly recommend Sandbar Solar. There have been so many nightmare stories related to Solar City and others, Sandbar was... read more a reassuring change. Jarrett McGuckin was the sales rep I worked with thru the entire process. He patiently answered all of my questions, providing all the details I needed to make an informed purchase decision. It was truly AMAZING how far we got in the process without having to meet in person. It's IMPERITIVE to point out that I NEVER felt any pressure from Jarrett. There was never any pressure to send a deposit check or anything like that -- the laid back approach to getting paid was very reassuring. The only pressure was the sunsetting of NEM 2.0 (if you've read this far, you're probably quite familiar).
Jarrett provided a detailed initial plan, complete with estimated roof-placement of panels. All without visiting in person and without commitment ('love Google Maps). The initial design was far from perfect, but it was a great start, giving a very adequate idea of whether solar would be worth the investment.
Jarrett was very responsive to email and/or phone calls with questions I had along the way.
Once the trigger was pulled another Sandbar team member, Eddie Diaz visited my home to do a pre-engineering planning drawing assessment of my home (roof and electrical panels). He too was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. This visit was a couple of weeks earlier than originally expected, serving as a reaffirmation of my decision to go with Sandbar.
Installation began three weeks earlier than expected (refer to previous commentary about reaffirmation). The lead installer, Chad, and his team were quite friendly and really knew their stuff. The install was expected to take 3 days. It took two. After the first day, I was very impressed with the attention to detail in the work done. The conduit was bent perfectly and calk was applied cleanly. The installers moved everything necessary in my garage to allow for conduit install and then moved everything back. While all of this is in many ways trivial, it's also *everything*. To me, if an installer pays attention to details, the overall work is much more likely to be very good.
My install was completed in January 2023. There has been a metric ton of rain since then and no roof leaks. I'm confident Mother Nature has performed a sufficient leak test.
The only real problem I ran into was PG&E's delay in providing Permission to Operate (to start getting credit for sending power up the wire). This was outside the control of Sandbar though. Brandon Pattynama with Sandbar was as helpful as he could be in providing assistance with PG&E. The delays ended up being due to the enormous increase in workload for the PG&E PTO team related to the sunsetting of NEM 2.0.
Jarrett, Eddie, Chad, Brandon, and the inside project coordinator, Joceyln (who really did a lot of the heavy lifting) were excellent to work with. They were supportive, responsive, and highly knowledgeable through the entire process. BONUS: I got to use a local company and not get lost in the fog of Tesla or any of the other national firms.

Can't recommend them highly enough.
